Interact Team | Dec. 21, 2022
It was a strong end to the awards year for Interact as we picked up the Energy Impact Award at the DCD Awards from a shortlist that included tech giants Intel, Microsoft, Google and Meta.
As Managing Director Rich Kenny remarks, ‘Our competition yesterday was Microsoft for their development of a Hydrogen-powered Data Centre. Our future impact on the entire sector was rated greater. This is the highest recognition you can have. We’re excited that our machine-learning energy-efficiency software is taking on some of the biggest names in the world.’

The DCD Energy Impact award is the latest in a long line of regional, national and international tech and sustainability awards for our pioneering technology that has had such an impact on the industry. Since 2021, we have been awarded 13 awards.
Along the way, we have been inspired by the people we have met and the innovative businesses working to transform our world. Here are some of the awards the team has won in 2022.
In November, the team won the Spectator Economic Innovator of the Year for its region. Sponsored by Investec and widely recognised in the entrepreneur and investment communities, the Economic Innovator of the Year Awards celebrate creative UK entrepreneurship and outstanding innovation.
Earlier in the autumn, Interact was also recognised as one of the most innovative tech companies in Yorkshire, winning Tech Nation’s Rising Stars 5.0 City Winner in September. Organised by the UK network for tech entrepreneurs, the awards celebrate the brightest and best that UK tech has to offer. Interact now go through to the next stage working alongside Tech Nation.
‘There were some excellent businesses involved in this competition and we especially liked the breadth and scope of the entries, from pop-up incubators saving babies in Ukraine to portable dog washing to AI + ML tech to vegan chocolate. Being selected out of hundreds of applicants is an acknowledgement of the hard work done by our team,’ comments Rich Kenny.
The research team was also recognised for our focus on improving the environment through data centre efficiency at the Leeds Digital Festival, beating strong competition to win the Sustainability Award. There were over 200 entries for the 10 awards that celebrate the burgeoning tech and digital industry in Leeds and the surrounding area.
As Rich Kenny states, ‘‘The Yorkshire tech scene is one of the best and fastest growing in Europe, with Leeds especially noted for innovative tech. The recognition that comes from these awards helps us get our message out about the importance of energy efficiency.’
Earlier in the summer, Interact won ESG Technology of the Year at the National Tech Awards, celebrating the pioneers of technology and encouraging excellence. This category rewards those companies who can demonstrate use of innovative technologies and data to track ESG objectives and support businesses and consumers in the transition to a greener, more sustainable future for all.
